Clinical career
Dr Lilantha Wedisinghe is a Senior Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Ipswich Hospital. Lilantha's postgraduate medical training was based in the United Kingdom. He commenced his internship training in Scotland in 2004. Lilantha was ranked second in Scotland when he applied to specialist training in 2008. Dr Wedi was appointed as a substantive Consultant and Honorary Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in 2015. After completing 14 years of service in the National Health Service, he moved to Rockhampton in 2018 and has worked exclusively in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr Wedi obtained specialist qualifications from the Republic of Ireland (2013), UK (2015), and Australia (2019).
Clinical academic career
Dr Wedisinghe graduated from the University of Colombo in 2003. He was awarded a PhD following research with the University of London in 2015 and was appointed Associate Professor at Warwick Medical School in 2015. Lilantha is an expert in cervical screening and colposcopy and has won several awards when presenting his research at national and international meetings. He received the prestigious Edgar Gentill Prize in 2015, which is awarded for the best piece of gynaecological cancer research by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He was also the winner of the NHS Excellence Award in 2013 and the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award in 2021. He is an examiner at various levels from medical undergraduates to fellowship. He has been an accredited trainer of medical undergraduate and specialist training throughout his career. He obtained a Master's degree in Medical Education from the University of Dundee. He obtained several other clinical academic qualifications from the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, and Queensland. He has published in peer-reviewed journals several times and continues to conduct research in the area of cervical screening in Ipswich.
Personal
Lilantha moved from Rockhampton to Ipswich with his wife and two boys in 2023. Lilantha played Division-2 cricket for West Scotland and is still a passionate cricket fan. Lilantha enjoys traveling, music, and comedy. Lilantha is concerned about global warming and wants to do something about it.
